Terms and Conditions:
Concession rates apply to full time students & individuals who are either on incapacity benefit or unemployed.
Fees paid for courses are non-refundable, unless there is a waiting list for the course and a replacement can be found.
Your place on a course is secured on a 'first come first served' basis by payment of the course fee.

Nine Week Advanced Textiles and Mixed Media Exploration with Gill Collinson
Mondays 9.30am-12.30pm starting 9th January £175 inc. materials and 30th April £157 inc. materials (Please note Nine weeks due to 7th May Bank Holiday)
A course aimed at those with some experience in any visual discipline who would like to continue along their creative path, supported by an experienced artist/tutor within an informal yet stimulating environment. Projects will be set as starting points from which to explore a wide range of textile/mixed media techniques combined with essential design principles.
 
     
     
Nine Week Creative Drawing with Niki Chandler
Mondays 1.00-3.30pm starting Monday 9th January £150 inc. materials and 30th April £135 inc. materials please note Nine weeks due to May 7th Bank Holiday
The course is designed to set you on a path of visual discovery through creative drawing processes and connective thinking. You will be introduced to a wide range of art media and numerous mark-making techniques, including collage and printing processes to help you find your preferred way of working and individual visual aesthetic. Suitable for all levels particularly those looking for inspirational starting points for craft disciplines and fine art practice.
 
     
Ten Week Introduction to Textiles with Gill Collinson
Tuesdays 9.30am-12.30pm starting 10th January and 1st May £175 per term inc. materials
An ideal opportunity for those with little or no previous experience to learn, play and grow in confidence with skills such as felt making, batik, dyeing and bleaching, exploring heat tools and others. A new technique is introduced and explored every two weeks leading to the production of a series of "TexTiles" (6 inch square samples). These are combined to produce a glorious technique 'sampler' united by a chosen theme. There will be plenty of one-to-one guidance, developing new skills and learning foundational design principles.
 
     
Ten Week Ceramics Day Class with Lucy Blake Wednesdays 9.30am-12 noon starting 11th January and 2nd May £160 per term inc. materials and firings Make, experiment, build, change and create. This course provides tuition tailored to the style and interest of each student. Lucy's main focus is sculptural works, but she is equally happy to teach both hand built and thrown techniques as well as sculpture. Discover ways of expressing shape, form, texture and colour through the exciting processes of ceramics. Suited to both the complete beginner and the more advanced student.  
     
Ten Week Drawing and Mixed Media with Neil Payne
Thursdays starting 12th January and 3rd May
9.30am-12 noon £145 per term inc. materials or 1-4pm £170 per term inc. Materials
Discover a range of materials such as oils, acrylics, graphite, pastels and mixed media in this experimental and enjoyable class. Explore simple printmaking, collage and surface textures. You will be introduced to many drawing techniques and look at still lives and interiors as well as venturing outside when weather permits. The morning class is suitable for all levels, while the afternoon class is for those who have some experience and would like to extend their skills.
 
     
Ten Week Jewellery Daytime Course with Simon Rees
Fridays 1-3pm starting 13th January and 4th May £130

A charge will be made for silver and consumables used
This class is suitable for all levels. Students will learn new techniques in order to enhance their work. The class will cover makume (mixed metals), chain making, etching, simple stone setting, sandcasting and a variety of surface pattern making techniques.

Nine Week Drawing with Niki Chandler
Mondays 7-9pm starting 9th January £120 inc. materials and 30th April £108 inc. materials (Please note Nine weeks due to 7th May bank holiday)
This lively course is aimed at all those who have a passion and interest in learning to see through the activity of drawing. You will be encouraged to discover your own personal style through engagement with a wide range of observational drawing and mark-making exercises. Formal elements of design such as colour, pattern, scale, texture and composition will be covered. The course is suitable for complete beginners to drawing, but will also appeal to those pursuing other craft areas as Niki has a background in design and textiles.
 
     
Ten Week Ceramics with Joy Voisey
Tuesdays 5-7pm starting 10th January 1st May £130 per term inc. firings and materials
A diverse course which will enable you to make ceramics using a variety of hand building techniques as well as improving your throwing if you wish. Suitable for both total beginners and those with more experience.
 
     
Ten Week Ceramics with Jenny Oates
Tuesdays 7.15-9.15pm starting 10th January and 1st May £130 per term inc. firings and materials
This course welcomes beginners and those wishing to improve their existing skills. The class will be organised to allow as much flexibility as possible, teaching the basic skills of hand building and throwing as well as encouraging more experienced students to experiment and develop their individual skills and ideas.
 
     
Ten Week Mixed Level Jewellery with Nick Gillespie
Wednesdays 5-7pm starting 11th January and 2nd May £130 per term
Thursdays 5-7pm starting 12th January and 3rd May £130 per term
A charge will be made for silver and consumables used
Learn the basics of working precious metals and jewellery construction: soldering, sawing, smithing, stone setting, texturing and polishing. A chance to learn the core skills necessary to accomplish your own projects.
 
     
Ten Week Intermediate Jewellery Wednesdays 7.15-9.15pm starting 11th January and 2nd May £130 per term with Nick Gillespie Thursdays 7.15-9.15pm starting 12th January and 3rd May £130 per term with Simon Rees A charge will be made for silver and consumables used
Higher level classes for those who already have experience of soldering and basic jewellery making techniques. You will have the chance to work on your own projects and learn new skills such as makume, smithing, simple casting and enamelling.

New! Polymer Clay - Mica Shift Workshop with Nina Fletcher
Saturday 25th February 10am-4pm £60 inc. materials
In this workshop we will explore Mica Shift in Polymer Clay to create a stunning 3D pendant. We will focus on how to organise the Mica and blending of colours; so that we can create a luminous pattern of holographic depth. You will also learn how to carve, texture, backfill, sand and buff for a mesmerising finish. You will also learn other techniques; texturing and distressing through several layers which exposes very unique designs. This technique which will open up yet another side to Polymer Clay; from making beads to embellish picture frames, transforming glass tumblers into decorated tea lights - the list is long, come and explore. We will also create a pendant using 'twist and slice technique', which produces a mirror image of your design, a quick and impressive way to quickly make amazing pendants. Polymer Clay is such a versatile & inexpensive material that can be transformed into stunning beads and jewellery. You don't need any additional equipment to carry on with your hobby; it bakes in a domestic oven and it is not messy to work with. One word of warning - it is very addictive! Bring your enthusiasm for exploring a new craft and we will supply the rest to make it a very enjoyable workshop.
 
     
New! Knitting Round and Round with Liz Marley
Sunday 26th February 10am-4pm £50 (Needles provided, students provide the yarn)
Using circular needles you will create a seamless cowl or circular scarf with a variety of optional finishing and embellishing techniques. If you can knit, purl, cast on and off, and would like to experiment a little with seamless knitting, this class is for you.
 
     
Making and Decorating Ceramic Tiles with Joy Voisey
Saturday 3rd March and Saturday 17th March 10am-4pm £110 inc. materials and firings
On the first day you will make the tiles using both red and white clays, observing methods and considering your designs. The white tiles will be biscuit fired in readiness for the application of ceramic under glaze colours on the second day. The red tiles will be impressed and painted with while slip then kept damp in readiness for continued work on the second day. You will have the opportunity to use both techniques making approximately 10 tiles of varying sizes. All will be glazed and fired to 1080 c at the end of the course. Beginners welcome.
 
     
Silver Ring Making with Simon Rees
Saturday 10th March £60 (a charge will be made for silver and consumables used)
A ring making course for students of all levels of experience. Students will have the exciting chance to make rings incorporating soldering, forming and texturing and for more advanced students, setting stones. Metal and stones can be purchased on the course.
 
     
Mixed Media Experimentation/Surfaces with Neil Payne
Saturday 24th March 10am-4pm £60 inc. materials
You will experiment with aspects of relief work including cut card, gesso and applied texture/surface building. Tonal variations, staining, pigments and experimental colour work will enhance the final pieces. Starting points from still life, art history and contemporary examples will be discussed and used as inspiration.
 
     
New! Photoshop for Beginners with Andreas Polihronis
31st March and 1st April £110
This Course is an ideal introduction to image manipulation using Photoshop. Essential skills will be introduced and practised, working towards a greater understanding of the main features of the programme. No prior knowledge of Photoshop is required, but you will need to provide your own laptop and know how to use a computer for word processing. You will work on your own photographs.
 
     
Pineapple Log Cabin Patchwork with Niki Chandler
Saturday 28 April 10am-4pm £60
Working at Intermediate Level this is the third in the series of strip piecing workshops. This foundation method technique produces dramatic radiating spiky edges reminiscent of the tropical fruit. Again you will learn to draft the block and look at how the design emphasis can be changed to produce circles, crosses or spirals.
Students will need to bring their own fabrics.Specialist materials are included in the fee.
 
     
Knitted Wire Jewellery with Alison Mander Saturday 12th May 10am-4pm £60 inc. basic materials Create your own beautiful contemporary jewellery by knitting coloured fine wire with beads and stones. You will be introduced to making knitted pieces that can then be manipulated and sewn into highly unusual bracelets and rings. You will be shown the basic techniques and then encouraged to design and create your own pieces. Basic knitting experience is useful but not essential.  
     
Weekend of Screen Printing onto Textiles with Ricki Outis
19th and 20th May 10am-4pm £110 inc. all printing inks and use of screens
Come along to this exciting workshop with a pile of plain fabrics and leave with exciting colourful prints you can use for many months of sewing. If you don't like to stitch you can print on ready- made: T-shirts, bags, aprons etc. Emphasis is on the experimental, making paper, vilene and various filler stencils, which will be used with the screen to create bold and colourful prints on fabric. This is a great introductory session for anyone new to screen printing as well as for students who would like to develop existing printing skills. We will be using pigment based print inks, which are non-toxic, and A4 screens are provided for use during the weekend. (A short materials list will be issued on enrolment)
 
     
Sculpture Weekend Course with Lucy Blake
26th and 27th May 10am-4pm £110 inc. all materials and firings
On this comprehensive weekend course you will be able to learn many different types of hand building sculpture techniques, which you will then be able to apply to your own projects. The techniques will include, block carving, armature building and use, modelling of detail, textures and features and freestyle building techniques. This course is suitable for both the complete beginner looking to learn the basic techniques and the more advanced student wanting specific help and guidance in their own projects. On the first day we will be trying out each technique with some small maquette work and then starting a small project of choice. For the second day, we will be finishing these small projects and covering modelling techniques. It would be useful to bring some reference photos or pictures if you wish to model particular flora or fauna.
 
     
Monoprinting with Val Armstrong
Saturday 16th June 10am-4pm £65 inc. all materials
In this course you will experiment and play with the technique of monoprinting. The result will be wonderful and unique multi?coloured prints. They will be created by overlapping layers of transparent inks with both cut paper and organic matter as stencils. The secret is to judge when to stop!
 
     
Throwing Weekend with Jenny Oates
23rd and 24th June 10am-4pm £100 inc. materials and biscuit firing
Making thrown vessels on a wheel is not a gift - it is a skill that anyone can master. Through focused, individual teaching, this 2-day intensive course provides the ideal opportunity for beginners to master the basics of throwing as well as offering those with some skill a chance to take their work to the next level.
 
     
Summer on the River Drawing Day with Neil Payne
Friday 29th June 10am-4pm £70 inc. materials but please bring your own sketchbooks
Landscape drawing from the canal boat Rosie! The day will be spent drawing in sketchbooks and on paper with a variety of media on the boat and on the banks of the river, taking inspiration from how other artists have approached drawing in the landscape. Come and have an enjoyable, productive, and (hopefully) sunny day on the River Cam.
 
     
Creative Copper Clay Workshop with Melanie Blaikie
Saturday 30th June 10am-4pm £75 inc. materials
Get creative with the newest addition to the metal clay family. Copper clay is versatile, affordable and perfect for creating larger jewellery items. Learn all the basic techniques for working with this soft, pliable clay and shape it into unique necklaces, earrings, brooches, bracelets etc. Copper is also a great colour combination with silver!'
 
     
Indigo Dyeing with Clarissa Cochran
Sunday 1st July 10am-4pm £60 inc. dyes
Come and experience for yourselves the magic of indigo. We will look at examples of indigo dyeing and talk about the different Shibori techniques. I'll tell you how an indigo vat works. Most people then make up a sample piece of cotton using the stitching techniques. If you have a project or clothes you want to dye/transform - (white or light-coloured cotton or silk etc), bring them. We might well go on to further Shibori techniques, e.g. folding and clamping (Itajime) and pole-wrapping,(Arashi) I have some scarves and cotton bags to dye (cost price). Please bring a sewing kit (needles large enough to take strong thread which I can supply. Small scissors with good points (or 'un-picker').

Sand Casting with Simon Rees
Saturday 14th July 10am-4pm £60 (a charge will be made for silver used)
This course exposes students to the huge possibilities of small scale sand casting. Students will be shown how to develop a master, enabling objects to be reproduced and assembled, providing a new dimension for many jewellers. A great advantage of this type of casting is that it enables the reuse of scrap silver.
 
     
Etching with Simon Rees
Sunday 15th July 10am-4pm £60 (a charge will be made for silver used)
The course will cover a number of techniques involved in metal etching. Students will be encouraged to experiment with combining etching and other texturing techniques in order to develop exciting surface patterns.
 
     
Two Day Textiles - Colour and Texture on Synthetic Materials with Gill Collinson
16th and 17th July £110 inc. most materials
Create amazing layered effects with specialist dyes on synthetic materials such as velvet, organza, Lutradur and even plastic bags! You will have the opportunity to play and explore interesting textured paint effects, resists and masks - working onto paper, then transfer printing (via ironing) onto your synthetics. Ironing has never been so exciting! Discover the creative potential of heat tools, working into your fabrics from the previous day, creating gorgeous multi-layered textures. Turn your unique creations into beautiful little handmade books, jewellery or hangings. Join us for two days of creative fun!
