There is a one week break for half term w/c 26th May.
The courses recommence
w/c 2nd June and run for a further 5 weeks.

Ten Week Intermediate/Advanced Textiles and Mixed Media Exploration with Gill Collinson
Mondays 9.30am–12.30pm starting 21st April £165 per term inc. materials

A course aimed at those with experience in any visual discipline who would like to continue along their own creative path supported by an experienced artist/tutor within an informal art school environment. Projects will be set as starting points from which to explore a wide range of textile/mixed media techniques combined with essential drawing practice. Gill has a background in Graphic Design and a passion for exploring materials.

 
 
Ten Week Drawing Day Class with Neil Payne
Mondays 1-4pm starting 21st April £160 per term inc. materials
Discover a range of materials such as oils, acrylics, pastels and simple printmaking in this experimental and enjoyable class. You will be introduced to many drawing techniques and look at still lives and interiors as well as venturing outside when weather permits. Neil is an inspirational local artist and tutor. This class is suitable for all levels, including absolute beginners.
 
 
Ten Week Beginner's Textiles and Mixed Media Exploration with Roger Prime
Tuesdays 10am-1pm starting 22nd April £165 per term inc. materials
A unique opportunity to experiment with textiles in an original and creative way. This course offers you the opportunity to add to your knowledge of textile techniques and to learn new skills. Projects will be introduced, and you will be encouraged to experiment and develop these into final finished pieces. There will be plenty of one-to-one guidance and the emphasis will be on the development of ideas and confidence. Suitable for all levels.
 
 
Ten Week Ceramics Day Class with Gail Woodhouse

A fun, practical course introducing a range of basic techniques such as sawing, soldering, drilling, texturing, forming and finishing. A number of projects will be run to introduce the range of core skills and you will make your own pieces of jewellery. No previous skills or experience are necessary.

 
 

Ten Week Jewellery for Beginners Evening Course with Rebecca Ilett
Fridays 6.45-8.45pm starting 25th April £120 per term (a small charge will be made for silver)

A course aimed at beginners introducing basic techniques and processes in jewellery including etching, stone setting and repousse. The course is aimed at beginners, but those with more experience are welcome as 1-1 tuition is aimed at all levels. Rebecca Ilett is a highly skilled local jeweller.

Knitted Wire Jewellery with Roger Prime
Sat 12th April 10am-4pm £50 inc. materials

Create your own beautiful contemporary jewellery by knitting coloured fine wire and beads together. You will be introduced to making knitted sculptural pieces that can then be manipulated and sewn into highly unusual bracelets, neckpieces and brooches. You will be encouraged to create individual contemporary pieces with very basic techniques. Roger Prime is an inspirational local tutor and textile artist. Suitable for all levels of experience.
 
 

NEW! Porcelain Jewellery with Matthew Blakely

Porcelain, polished and fully vitrified is an ideal material for use in jewellery, or as beads or buttons. On this course you will learn how to colour porcelain clay and then use various lamination techniques to produce a range of small decorative objects. Suitable for all levels.

 
 
NEW! Exploration in Oils with Jane Curtis
19th/20th April 10am-4pm £90 inc. basic materials (please bring your own brushes if you have them)

A comprehensive two-day course at which all standards are welcome. Beginners will learn the basic techniques for using this wonderfully diverse medium. You will learn to understand the practicalities of using the materials, consider colour and composition and look at the work of great artists. But above all you will enjoy experimenting in a relaxed and sympathetic environment. More experienced students may like to work from a simple still life provided or develop their own ideas.
 
 
Throwing Weekend with Matthew Blakely

An opportunity to devote a whole weekend to developing your throwing technique. The course is designed to cater for individual needs and, with a group of only 6, there will be plenty of one-to-one tuition. Suitable for beginners and those with more experience. Matthew Blakely is an established local potter and tutor.
 
 
Coracle Making Course with Olivia Elton-Barrett
3rd/4th May 10am-4pm £180 per coracle (based on two people working together) inc. materials

This unusual and popular course returns! Learn to make a one-man version of an Irish “Boyne” coracle, using thick willow withies covered with bitumen-coated calico. Olivia Elton- Barrett is the President of the Basketmakers Association, and an extremely experienced coracle maker and tutor. Suitable for anyone who loves messing around in boats.
 
 
Collage and Monoprint Weekend with Val Armstrong-Wood
10th & 11th May 10am-4pm £90 inc. materials and most paper

In this weekend workshop you will gradually develop collage works on board. The collages will be built up using simple monoprinting and mixed media techniques to create vibrant and personal statements. Students are invited to bring visual material such as photos, poems or maps to base their work on: the collages created can be a personal story or an artistic statement in its own right - the possibilities are endless.
 
 
NEW! Repousse Jewellery with Rebecca Ilett
Sat 17th May 10am-4pm £50 (a small charge of £8-10 will be made if you choose to use silver)

A short course aimed at students who would like to try the ancient process of creating volumetric forms by pushing sheet metal into shape with punches and a lot of hammering.  We will be creating 3D forms from flat silver or copper sheet working on pitch to support the metal. You will be able to complete a small pendant during the day. Choose from a range of projects using natural forms, shells, leaves etc. as inspiration.  It would be helpful to have some experience of basic jewellery techniques.
 
 
NEW! Silver Clay Jewellery with Melanie Blaikie
Sun 18th May 10am-4pm £65 inc. basic materials

A revolutionary new material, silver clay has all the properties of clay but is 99.9% pure silver. This enables complete beginners to model two or three pieces of jewellery, which will then be fired in minutes and be ready to take home at the end of the day. Melanie Blaikie, a jeweller and one of only a handful of tutors qualified to teach this technique in this country will run this course.
 
 
Silver Ring Making Day with Francesca Biggar

A course aimed at beginners. Students can enjoy a whole day of jewellery making, get a feeling for the subject and finish a simple silver ring. The course will cover all the basic jewellery techniques such as piercing, soldering, filing, polishing and also the handling of tools.

An introductory workshop in the carving of sculpture in Soapstone, which is very soft and easy, yet produces a fine polished result. NEW! Decorative Glaze Application with Joy Voisey

A fascinating opportunity to learn a range of techniques for applying glazes to make the most of your pots and sculpture. The day focuses on the creative application of glazes, covering the use of wax and latex resists, stoneware glazes, underglaze colours, oxide painting, and layering techniques that can be used to combine compatible glazes. Joy Voisey is a highly experienced potter and tutor who has worked for many years on ceramics projects in Nigeria
   
 
Digital Photography with Alex Murphy
Sun 22nd June 10am-4pm £45 (please bring your own digital camera)

For those who wish to know more about their digital cameras beyond the Auto Mode function. Your camera must have a Manual mode function. You will also learn some compositional techniques to improve your picture-taking skills. If you lack the confidence to take your camera out in public, then this is the workshop for you. You will learn more about your camera with a group of like-minded people and will be able to take photographs under guidance.
 
 
NEW! Create a Plate: Drawing with Scissors with Amanda MacPhail
Sat 28th June 10am-3pm £50 inc. firing and one 12” bone china plate (additional plates £20 each or £10 per mug)

Using bright on-glaze enamels, dynamic contemporary designs and drawings are produced by you the artist, transferred to the fine bone china and fired. Working on plates or mugs, drawings, patterns or designs are explored initially on paper before being transferred to the sheets of enamel. These are then cut and immersed in water and the glaze floated on to the bone china surface. The work is fired in a kiln and then can be used - even put in the dishwasher! Help and inspiration will be given by designer and illustrator Amanda MacPhail.
 
 
Two Saturdays of Beginners Kiln Glass with Linda Boy
Sat 29th September and 4th October 10-4pm £tbc inc. materials and firings

Your imagination is the only limit when looking for materials and objects to trap between glass to create experimental fused glass pieces to hang in windows or make into jewellery. Moulds will be provided for slumping glass. If time permits, you will also learn how to make your own plaster moulds to make 3D objects. This course is suitable for those who have little or no experience in kiln glasswork.
 
 
Advanced Kiln Glass with Linda Boy
Sat 25th October 10am-4pm £tbc inc. all materials and firings

An opportunity for those who have attended kiln glass courses in the past, to come and make jewellery or individual experimental pieces. Dichroic and fusing glass including opaque glass and frits will be available to use. You will learn new techniques and have the chance to put ideas into practice. There will also be a mini kiln in the studio, so that you can learn the practicalities of firing glass.

NEW! Summer Drawing Weekend on the River with Neil Payne

Landscape drawing from the canal boat Rosie! One day will be spent drawing in sketchbooks and on paper in a variety of media on the boat and on the banks of the river. You will take inspiration from how other artists have approached drawing in the landscape. You will be shown how to develop your drawings into exciting mixed media and print making work, by this creative and inspiring tutor.
   
 
Portrait Heads with Mike Gillespie

A special opportunity to take part in the interesting and challenging task of creating a likeness in clay. You will work from a model, benefiting from the wisdom and depth of a sculptor of long experience. Four Day Textiles with Roger Prime
Monday–Thursday 10th-14th August 10-3pm £120 inc. materials.
A unique opportunity to try out a wide range of textile techniques during an intensive four days of experimentation. You start by making your own ceramic buttons, which you can use to embellish your creations - tie dye, batik, felt making, beadwork and embroidery will all be taught, and by the end of the course you will be able to create bags, cushions or scarves with your beautiful textiles!
